For a Greener Lithuania: LONAS will plant a tree for every bed purchased by customers across the Baltics.

Lithuanian bed, mattress, and bedroom textile manufacturer “LONAS” has been expressing its care for the environment for many years through more sustainable production practices. Careful selection of raw materials and partners, creative reuse of leftover fabric scraps, advanced and resource-saving manufacturing methods, and ensuring the longevity of products are just a few of the principles applied within the company. From now on, “LONAS” will extend its environmental efforts beyond production and showroom spaces. For every bed purchased by customers in the Baltic countries, the LONAS team will plant a tree.

Will plant with their own hands

The idea to involve customers and together contribute to Lithuania — the country where “LONAS” began and continues its successful journey — was born on the occasion of the company’s 30th anniversary. The team sought to find a meaningful way to celebrate this important milestone.

“Already this coming spring, we will plant a tree for every “LONAS” bed purchased by customers in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in 2023. Our goal is to make this not a one-time initiative, but a long-term tradition that takes place every spring. Since sustainability and care for the environment are values close to our entire team, we decided to carry out the planting ourselves — after consulting with forestry experts, we will choose the right time and tree species, take shovels in our hands, and plant them in the truest sense of the word,” says Domas Jakutis, CEO of “LONAS.”

The LONAS team will also invite all interested customers and partners to join the tree-planting initiative. Following the advice of forestry experts, the planting is planned for the upcoming April.

A suitable location for the new forest has already been chosen in the Aukštaitija region. It was found, prepared, and dedicated to this initiative by the founder of “LONAS,” bard, and devoted nature enthusiast, Kazimieras Jakutis.

“I don’t understand why one would cut down a linden tree just because its branches are in the way. It’s enough to trim them! Why hunt animals? Let them live. Through my work and my songs, I want to share a message: I stand for the wolf, for the bird, for the tree. I am glad that nature and the environment matter to the entire LONAS team. I can’t wait to see the new trees turn green,” says Kazimieras Jakutis.

4,000 beds per year

To determine which tree species will be most suitable for the soil in the selected area, “LONAS” will consult with environmental experts who know the forests, their fauna, and flora best.

Each year, “LONAS” sells an average of 4,000 beds across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Therefore, it is planned that in the new forest, grown together with customers, at least 4,000 trees will be planted next year alone.

The “LONAS” assortment offers customers a choice of 16 different bed models, each of which can be customized with one of more than 500 fabrics, as well as the preferred type of bed base and legs. All beds are produced using sustainable materials and manufacturing methods that ensure durability and long-lasting quality.

More information about the tree-planting initiative will be available on the manufacturer’s social media channels, the official website, and in every “LONAS” showroom in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.
